Tonight, two original short films created by students from SOU Josif Josifovski – Gevgelija will be presented at the Across the Lake International Film Festival in Dojran, North Macedonia. The festival runs from August 7 to 12, 2025, and celebrates creativity, youth voices, and global cinema.
As part of the official evening program, the audience will experience:
- When the Rage Wears Off – a bold exploration of frustration, suppressed emotion, and the silence of a society that forgets to care. Inspired by playwright Dejan Dukovski, the film reflects on moral decay, isolation, and the urgent need for dialogue.
- STOP (Can’t You See I’m Ashamed?) – a story about the weight of social pressure hidden behind well-meaning attention. Shot with minimal equipment and entirely student-led, this film reveals the emotional intelligence and honesty of today’s youth.
The screening will be followed by:
- A live discussion with the student creators and mentors
- A PLAYLAB film literacy workshop focused on youth expression and critical viewing
- A special showing of “Jon Vardar vs. the Galaxy”, Macedonia’s first animated feature film

These films are the result of the CLOSE Cinemalab, a methodology that combines social-emotional learning with film creation to promote inclusion, empathy, and student agency.
